People from the Caribbean countries settled in North America in droves, seeking a better life. As a result, it’s unsurprising that Canada is home to a large Jamaican, Guyana and Trinidadian population. Finding the right ingredients for Caribbean food can be challenging for people so far away from home. Fortunately for them, Cool Runnings Foods has them covered.

Cool Runnings is a popular term in the cultural zeitgeist that originates from the debut of the Jamaican National Bobsleigh Team at the 1988 Winter Olympics. However, it has also become a popular brand because Cool Runnings is used by most Jamaicans. It means ‘peace be the journey.’

The spice brand has over 300 products today, including different spices, seasonings, sauces, drinks, etc. The business was established in 1992 and has been operational for over 30 years. Paul formed the business after coming from a business-oriented family back in Guyana. His father was a rice farmer, and his mother had a stall selling clothes and food in the local market. He saw his parents purchase products in bulk and repackage them in smaller quantities to sell. His parents particularly thrived in the spices business, and their success fueled his desire, inspiring him to get into the industry because it was all he knew.

Paul initially started a business by sourcing barley flour and glucose locally. He would then repackage and export them to Caribbean countries. This operation was a precursor to Cool Runnings Foods. Eventually, he wanted to expand his business after foregoing university to stay in the business world. He wanted to expand his business and grow. Thus, he began selling to local stores. Unfortunately, he realized that while most stores were happy to purchase glucose, most weren’t as keen on barley flour because they didn’t know about it. It was expected, considering barley flour is mostly popular with people from Caribbean countries.

Hence, he decided to refocus his business after stumbling into an Indian store where they sold spices. He began purchasing spices in bulk and targeted a new audience – the Jamaican population in Canada. With a new target audience and niche in mind, he started Cool Runnings Foods.

Cool Runnings Foods has evolved into a successful corporation since its inception. Paul has been involved in every step, ensuring success. The organization employs over 30 employees and continues to grow annually. It has also been listed by mainstream clients like No Frills, Walmart, Food Basics, Sobeys, etc. You can’t go wrong with the brand’s spices and seasonings if you’re looking for the ideal spices and seasoning to improve your weekend meals.
