Outdoor Tiles

Outdoor tiles made from other materials, however, do need somewhat of a regular cleaning routine, unlike the tanzanite natural stone tiles.

Identify what materials your tiles are made from – wood, composite, stone, or porcelain. This will help you adopt a regular cleaning routine for them. Dust or dry mop the debris or dirt before you start washing your tiles with a mild soap or vinegar solution.

You will need to deep clean the tiles once or twice every year to discourage mold or mildew growth. For fresh-looking tiles – always avoid using abrasive cleaning and harsh chemical products.

Let’s tackle the easiest cleaning procedure first – that is for cleaning natural stone outdoor deck tiles;

Cleaning Natural Stone Outdoor Tiles

Run a dry mop on natural stone outdoor deck tiles once or twice a week. You can also do it daily – which isn’t needed – if you notice an accumulation of dirt or debris. The dry mopping will prevent grit and sand from rubbing against the tiles – which can cause scratching. It’s more than enough for tanzanite outdoor tiles!

However, if your tiles are made from:

  • Granite
  • Slate
  • Limestone
  • Marble
  • Sandstone

You need to do the second step too;

This step involves washing the tiles with water and soap. Fill a 5-gallon bucket with tap water and add a few squirts of mild dishwashing liquid or stone soap. Dip the mop into the water-soap solution and wring it out. Start mopping the tiles in smaller, overlapping circles to get rid of dirt and prevent streaking.

Now comes the challenging cleaning rituals for high-maintenance outdoor tiles – wood or composite and Porcelain tiles. Let’s dig into them one by one.

Cleaning Wood and Composite Tiles

Step-1

Dry sweep the composite or wood tiles every few days. Make it a habit of tile and grout cleaning in Grovetown as soon as you notice dirt, grime, or leaves on them – as often as the need may be. Get a soft natural bristle broom to remove the debris – a regular sweeping ritual will keep tiles from being caked or stained with dirt.

Step-2

The next step is washing the tiles with soap and water at least once a month – you can also do it twice a month. Fill up a 5-gallon bucket with water, and add a mild dishwashing soap. The water should not be hard – it should be bubbly and soapy. Dip the mop into the soapy water and wring it out properly. Start mopping the tiles until all dirt is removed – rewash the mop in soap water as needed.

Also, use a string mop or a soft sponge head mop – do not use a scratchy or abrasive mop on the tiles.

Step-3

Now rinse the tiles; if you happen to be cleaning a large area, use a garden hose and properly rinse the tiles with clean water, and remove any soap residue. For a smaller area at hand, dip the mop in clean water, wring it out – and then start mopping over the outdoor tiles, so they get a deep rinse with clean water.

Step-4

It is important to remove grease stains – as soon as you notice a greasy/oily stain, wipe it up. Dip a sponge or a soft fabric rag into the soapy water and wash out the stain. This will remove the stain on its own. However, if the stain is hard to remove, use a deck stain remover specifically made for wood or composite outdoor tiles. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Remember that the longer the stain stays on the tile, the harder it will be to remove it – hence clean a stain as soon as you spot it on your composite or wood outdoor tiles.

Step-5

Twice a year, thorough deep cleaning of your tiles is recommended. In addition to keeping your wood or composite tiles swept clean – you should deep clean these tiles in the spring or the fall season too. Get yourself a tile cleaner specific for wood or composite tiles. Get one that has sodium hypochlorite and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Why use a cleaner with Sodium Hypochlorite?

Sodium hypochlorite will avert mold and mildew growth on the tiles.

Cleaning Porcelain Tiles

Step-1

Sweep your porcelain outdoor tiles every day or so. Use a soft natural bristle broom or use a vacuum attachment and suck up all the dirt and debris. Regular sweeping routines will keep your porcelain or ceramic tiles from becoming caked and stained with dirt and debris.

If your porcelain outdoor tiles lead up to an entryway of the house, you might have to sweep them more often. This will stop dirt from entering your house.

Step-2

This step is important; always make it a routine to wash your porcelain tiles once a week. Every few days or whenever you notice dirt or grime building on the tiles, you must clean the outdoor tiles with warm water.

Fill a 5-gallon bucket with clean and warm water and mop the tiles. This shall remove all the dirt and debris and keep them looking fresh. Make sure to wring out most of the water from the mop – as you don’t want excess moisture on ceramic tiles – as this can cause slippage.

Too overwhelmed with the cleaning rituals of wood, composite, and porcelain tiles? This, however, is completely avoidable by choosing tanzanite outdoor tiles, which are made from natural stones and don’t need much cleaning, maintenance, or replacements.

Making them your perfect outdoor flooring partner.
